Riccardo Murelli / Риккардо Мурелли

Born 1975 (Rome) Riccardo Murelli is a versatile artist usually working with metal, but in the last two year he started to develop projects in wood, especially in eastern Europe and Russia. After studying Philosophy, his sculpture career started in 1996 by assisting international artist Beverly Pepper through 2003. Since then his work has explored different techniques, such as sculpture, etching, drawings, as well as alternating single art works with site specific installations. Many collaborations with design firms such as Molteni&C and Minotti, creating sets in collaboration with filmmakers, and studying how to incorporate sculpture into architecture with architects. Based on geometrical shapes, Murelli’s work opens a discourse about the rhythm of human life as an allegory and has focused progressively on the concept of transparency, on the link between the two-dimensional and three-dimensional, on the mega and the micro.

His artistic experience has enabled him to create works of different proportions and various environments, from private to urban spaces : 54th Venice Biennial, KMFA di Kahosiung, a solo exhibition in Ruarts Gallery in Moscow, Museum PERMM in Russia, St. Regis Al Gassar Resort, Doha, Qatar, Foundation Charles Donwahi, Abidjan in Ivory Coast, Studio Maffei Milano to name only few of them.

Риккардо Мурелли родился в 1975 г. в Риме в семье архитекторов. В университете он изучал антропологию, философию и историю искусства. Мастерство художника Мурелли постигал, работая ассистентом у известного американского скульптора Беверли Пеппер, именно тогда он обратился к абстрактной скульптуре, которая позже стала основой его творчества.

Мурелли работает в различных техниках. Он создает скульптуры из металла и дерева, гравюры, живопись. Ему подвластны различные масштабы – от небольших графических листов до крупных инсталляций в архитектуре и парковых пространствах. Работы Риккардо Мурелли можно увидеть во многих галереях Италии, Голландии, Китая, частных коллекциях Европы и США. Художник участвовал в спецпроекте 54-й Венецианской Биеннале 2011 года.
