​In 21st century, a museum shall rethink its mission and its values, declare its place in contemporary world, learn to work with new audiences, integrate new technologies. At the same time, our museum is a conservative institution with traditional structure aimed at preservation and popularization of the collection of magnificent specimens of artistic creativity in the field of applied arts from different epochs.

Museum sees its mission in awakening the public interest and stimulation of visitors' taste to the process of learning, communication with material culture, translation of people's historical identity through culture.

Through the aesthetics of space and subject environment, the museum is presenting its activity to the new audiences. Our museum
promotes the involvement of wider audience, transforming the permanent exposition, using the new media and new forms of visual art. Artists, designers, architects, philosophers and art critics are prompted to deepen into studies of the traditional forms of decorative arts, complying with the principle «traditions for future».

The «Zeitgeist» festival in the Museum of Applied and Folk Art opens the zone of experiment, revealing new opportunities for communication between different types of arts, actualization and new understanding of the vast museum collection.
