In 21st century, a museum shall rethink its mission and its values, declare its place in contemporary world, learn to work with new audiences, integrate new technologies. At the same time, our museum is a conservative institution with traditional structure aimed at preservation and popularization of the collection of magnificent specimens of artistic creativity in the field of applied arts from different epochs.

Museum sees its mission in awakening the public interest and stimulation of visitors' taste to the process of learning, communication with material culture, translation of people's historical identity through culture.

Through the aesthetics of space and subject environment, the museum is presenting its activity to the new audiences. Our museum
promotes the involvement of wider audience, transforming the permanent exposition, using the new media and new forms of visual art. Artists, designers, architects, philosophers and art critics are prompted to deepen into studies of the traditional forms of decorative arts, complying with the principle «traditions for future».

The «Zeitgeist» festival in the Museum of Applied and Folk Art opens the zone of experiment, revealing new opportunities for communication between different types of arts, actualization and new understanding of the vast museum collection.

“During the festival “Kod epohi (Zeitgeist)” there is a specific space created in the museum, where the objects of the material world are united not only on a principle of temporal classification, but also on principles of common
materials, functional designation, and sociocultural meanings.

Spatial solution of the “Kod epohi (Zeitgeist)” can be called “processual”, introducing the aesthetic principle in the sequence of the exhibition passage. The project structure is simultaneously built in time and space. The sequence of impressions is formed “according to theatre laws”: by two types of interaction “hub” and “linear”. In the “hub” type, each room of the exhibition opens up to circular view with one or more accents - dominants. Linearity is manifested in consistent movement through the hub rooms of the exhibition. System of view unites the rooms of different style. Thus, a “tier” scheme of interaction between exhibits is formed”.

International Culture Project «Art-Residence» is uniting several directions of art:

         •        Visual art

         •        Music

         •        Dance

In the framework of the International Culture Project «Art-Residence», artists, choreographs, musicians of different directions from Russia and other countries are able to meet each other, share their experiences, work together and present joint ideas, which exist on the intersection of different genres of art.

Our objective is to collide concepts of the artists who belong to the same genre as well as to different genres of art, and to identify their unifying link.
